Google Atmosphere - London 21 May 2013

For those that know me, since 2009 I've been active in the corporate social media space, pioneering the use of twitter for crisis PR and online customer service.

Back then, it was a relatively new phenomenon, and the work I was doing was greeted with interest, scepticism and in some cases, fear. Myself and other early adopters predicted the impact social media would have on people and business - including what it would mean for how organisations are structured.

I was hopeful that with this new way of communicating, and building relationships, the wall between customers and employees would thin, and we could look forward to a much more transparent, authentic and valuable way of working.

In some organisations that's becoming a reality, helped in part by technology provided by, among others, Google. That's why I'm really pleased to have been invited to Google Atmosphere in London this week.

Google Atmosphere is an invite-only event that brings together around 400 senior business leaders from across the UK to participate in a number of sessions discussing the application of Google Enterprise in organisations. This includes how technology is being used to interact with customers, transform cultures, visualise business, cloud computing and of course making sense of the information in our lives, through search.

The Google Atmosphere event will be my third time with Googlers and others to talk about how we can transform business using technology. I originally visited the team in London to agree a small-scale Google Apps for Enterprise trial in 2011. As someone who has worked inside and outside organisations implementing social media, I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and thoughts about how we make the radical shift easier.

What about you? Do you use google apps for business?
